Calls for grants

We are happy to announce the opening of the next PLANETS Grant Call to support research visits and participation in conferences. The deadline for this call is SEPTEMBER 29, 2025 and the evaluation will be completed by OCTOBER 16, 2025. This call is for conferences/visits planned between NOVEMBER 2025 and MARCH 2026 .

It is strongly advised to consult the Annotated Rules for COST Actions in advance of submitting a grant application.

General guidance for grant applications and submission

  • Please include a description of the planned budget attached as a separate file, which will help the evaluation panel to assess the feasibility of the requested grant.
  • It is mandatory to include proper acknowledgement to the action in research papers and presentations.
    • Research papers which result from STSM grants should include the following sentence: "XX acknowledge support from the COST Action CA22133 PLANETS "
    • We also remind all awardees of dissemination conference grants (DCGs) that the goals and activities of the Action and the COST acknowledgement and logos must be advertised during the oral contribution (with evidence provided via slides to be uploaded following the conference).
    • In case of ITC (oral presentation) and YRI (oral or poster presentation) conference grants, it is mandatory to acknowledge the Action in your contribution, and include the COST logo, the EU logo, and the logo of the action. A template acknowledgements slide will be provided.
    • A failure to adequately promote or acknowledge the Action do so will result in rejection of the funding application.
  • All applications must be submitted through the e-COST platform.
  • All applicants must register for an e-COST profile and add their bank account details to the profile.
  • The applicant encodes a grant application by logging into e-COST and clicking on the Grant Applications tab.
  • Any already existing applications are available for consultation in Grant Applications Monitoring.
  • To encode a new application, the applicant clicks on ‘Apply for grant’.
  • The applicant can select the grant from the page ‘Apply for new grant’ – e.g., Short-Term Scientific Mission grant.

Types of grants supported by COST Actions

Short-term Scientific Mission (STSM) Grants (up to € 4000)

  • STSMs are exchange visits between academic institutions or between researchers employed in industry and academic institutions aimed at supporting researchers’ individual mobility, strengthening existing networks, and fostering collaboration.
  • STSM exchange between two academic/research institutions should be between two different COST member countries.
  • A minimum of 50% of grants will be awarded to Young Researchers and Innovators (YRIs) and/or participants from an Inclusiveness Target Country (ITC) or Near Neighbour Country (NNC).
  • In the application, you will need to provide:
    • title and date of the STSM
    • goals of the STSM (max 200 words)
    • working plan (max 500 words)
    • expected outputs and contribution to the action (max 500 words)
    • as attachments: a letter from a host institution, a CV, and a budget outline

Inclusiveness Target Country (ITC) Conference Grants (up to € 2500)

  • ITC Conference Grants (ITC-CGs) provide financial support for researchers affiliated in an Inclusiveness Target Country (ITC) or Near Neighbour Country (NNC) to present their research via an oral contribution at a high-level conference fully organized by a third party, i.e., not organized nor co-organized by this COST Action.
  • The grantee receives support for attending and presenting their work (oral presentation) at a conference and can establish new contacts for future collaborations.
  • The grants are aimed at supporting researchers in ITCs to increase their individual mobility and international visibility, strengthening existing networks and fostering international collaboration.
  • In the application, you will need to provide:
    • conference details (title, dates)
    • accepted contribution details (title of the presentation, co-authors)
    • relevance of the conference topic to the action (max 500 words)
    • motivation and expected impact

Young Research and Innovator (YRI) Grants (up to € 2500)

  • The Young Researcher and Innovator Conference Grants (YRI-CGs) provide support for Young Researcher and Innovators (YRI), defined by COST as researchers under the age of 40, for the presentation (poster/oral presentation) of their own work in a high-level conference fully organized by a third party, i.e., not organized nor co-organized by this COST Action.
  • The grantee receives support for attending and presenting their own work within the scope of the Action (poster/oral presentation) in a conference and can establish new contacts for future collaborations.
  • Grant can contribute to increasing the visibility of the Action.
  • In the application, you will need to provide:
    • conference details (title, dates)
    • accepted contribution details (title of the presentation, its type, co-authors)
    • relevance of the conference topic to the action (max 500 words)
    • motivation and expected impact

Dissemination Conference Grants (up to € 2500)

  • Dissemination Conference Grants (DCGs) provide financial support for action participants to deliver an oral presentation about the work of the Action at a high-level conferences organised by a third party, i.e., not organized nor co-organized by this COST Action.
  • The participation in the dissemination conference will increase the visibility of the Action in the research community and potentially attract new participants and stakeholders, thereby facilitating new collaborations.
  • In the application, you will need to provide:
    • conference details (title, dates)
    • accepted contribution details (title of the presentation, co-authors)
    • alignment with the Action Science Communication Plan (max 500 words)
